Photographers take back Instagram with ‘Instafocus’

I recently found out through an Instagram post about a new app coming out very soon called “Instafocus”.  I was not really sure what it was all about until I signed up and got an email that truly broke down why they made it, how they made it, and what they are hoping will come from it.  Rather than me trying to describe it’s purpose, I will let you read what their first email had told me.  It was a very pleasant surprise.

“ready to fall in love with instagram all over again?

jump up and down with excitement.

we know you’re all anxious, nervous, curious and excited – and today, we are happy to report that the long days and countless sleepless nights have paid off.. instafocus is ‘in review’ in the app store and will make its official debut in the coming days.

we love instagram.

really. we spend several hours a day looking at amazing photos, commenting, liking and posting. joining this community has been life-altering; we’re all the better for it. lately though, with the instagram population soaring past 50 million users, it is becoming harder and harder to discover photography-oriented people; people who take great care when they shoot, edit, and post to instagram, and who have a rare flare for visual artistry.
we thought for a while that instagram was fundamentally broken; that it needed to be fixed. but after a while, we realized that instagram is (and always was) designed to be a social network; one that’s not exclusively about “photography” as an art, but about people sharing moments of their lives.

so what about the photographers then? do we leave them to disappear into the ether? or do we stand up and do something about it? “yeah, let’s actually do something about it” we said; then all the pieces fell into place, and instafocus became a reality. it’s minimalist; it’s simple; it’s beautiful. it’s not about the social network anymore, it’s about every-day people who happen to take really, really amazing photos. welcome to instafocus. if you wouldn’t mind leaving your shoes at the door, that’d be great.
